“Spadok” (“Legacy”): An Anniversary Bread That Helps Demine Ukrainian Fields

To mark our company’s anniversary, our partner Happy Bakery, a craft bakery, proposed creating a joint product with a charitable purpose. This is how “Spadok” bread was born: VILIA flour combined with the bakery’s craftsmanship and hard work, with UAH 30 from every loaf sold donated to support demining efforts in Ukraine.
A Greeting with a Lasting Impact
In 2026, VILIA celebrated its 25th anniversary. For our company, this milestone was an opportunity not only to look back on the journey we had travelled, but also to remind ourselves that every minute of our work had a purpose. That is why the idea proposed by our long-standing partners at Happy Bakery—to congratulate VILIA in an unconventional way—immediately resonated with us.
Instead of a traditional gift, we decided to create a loaf of bread that would bring together the contributions of our two teams. VILIA supplied the flour, while Happy Bakery developed the recipe, baked the bread and handled its sale. From every loaf sold, UAH 30 was allocated to support the Demining of Ukraine Charitable Foundation. In this way, an ordinary everyday choice made by each customer became part of an important cause—making Ukrainian land safe again.
Why “Spadok”?
The name of the new bread was proposed by the VILIA team. This year, the company published The Taste of Generations, a collection of family flour-based recipes contributed by participants from different communities in the competition of the same name. These recipes had been passed down within their families from one generation to the next.

That is why the word Spadok, meaning “legacy”, proved to be such a fitting name. It embodies Ukrainian grain, memories of family recipes, respect for the work of farmers and responsibility towards those who will continue this story. This bread is about more than taste. It represents what we preserve, enrich and pass on to future generations.
A Local Product with Its Own Character
From the very beginning, Happy Bakery made a conscious decision to give its products a distinctly local identity. The bakery chose the Volyn-based company VILIA as its partner, and our cooperation began shortly after Happy Bakery opened in 2019. Since then, the bakery has used approximately 700 tonnes of our products and has become the largest craft bakery among VILIA’s partners.
For VILIA, it is essential that flour quality is achieved primarily through carefully selected grain, modern production technologies and professional quality control at every stage—not through artificial improvers. Natural flour is a living product: its characteristics may vary slightly depending on the harvest, requiring bakers to apply their experience, attention to detail and ability to adapt recipes.
A craft bakery reveals the potential of flour in entirely new ways. Sourdough reacts sensitively to even the slightest changes in raw materials, while the variety of artisan products opens up new flavours and textures. This is why feedback from the Happy Bakery team has practical value for us: VILIA’s specialists examine additional quality indicators, prepare separate batches for testing when necessary, and determine the optimal maturation period for the flour.
The Synergy of Scale and Craftsmanship
This partnership brings together two distinct areas of expertise. VILIA is responsible for the entire journey—from the field and grain selection to modern milling and consistent quality. Happy Bakery contributes artisan craftsmanship, sourdough expertise, time and direct engagement with consumers.
“Craft bakers are extremely demanding because they notice even the slightest changes in raw materials. Their feedback helps us improve our product. Although natural flour may sometimes require greater skill, it also makes it possible to create genuine bread with a character of its own,” says Iryna Dudka, Head of External and Internal Communications at VILIA.
For both teams, this cooperation represents a long-term commitment. It is built on proximity, open dialogue, high mutual standards and trust—trust shaped not by words, but by taking responsibility for the result every single day.
UAH 12,300 Raised—and the Story Continues
The anniversary edition of “Spadok” quickly became a favourite among Happy Bakery’s customers, with many returning specifically to buy it again. During the charity campaign, bread sales helped raise UAH 12,300. The funds were donated to the Demining of Ukraine Charitable Foundation.

But the story did not end there. By mutual agreement between Happy Bakery and VILIA, “Spadok” bread became a permanent part of the bakery’s range. Created as a special greeting for VILIA’s 25th anniversary, it now continues to live on through people’s everyday choices.

For VILIA, this partnership has offered yet another confirmation that the best results emerge when everyone contributes what they do best while remaining united by a shared purpose. Ukrainian grain, the work of bakers and the trust of customers created a loaf of bread that became far more than a product. It became a symbol of respect for Ukrainian land, craftsmanship and the legacy we are creating together.
